Tetenal Sepia Toner is a classic black and white sepia print toner. It is suitable to use with any black and white photographic paper. It produces brown image tones. This will vary depending on the paper and grade used when printing. Soft images tend to give warmer tones, whereas contrasty ones will give colder image tones.
Sepia toning is one of the oldest techniques used in photography and it has retained its nostalgic attraction to this day.
Being a relatively simple process, sepia toning is a great place to start if you want to learn more about toning. Additionally, it also has an archival effect on the print. However, if that’s your sole aim, you would be better off with Tetenal Gold Toner or a selenium toner. Sepia toned pictures can also be further enhanced with red tones by treating with Tetenal Gold Toner. The brown silver sulphide images turn to very attractive red tones.
How To Use
The pack contains 500ml concentrate of bleach and toner. This will make 2.5 litres of working solution each. If you are only toning a few prints the concentrate can be partly mixed to make smaller volumes of working solution. Working solution will last up to one week once mixed up.
