Alongside HP5 400, FP4 is one of Ilford’s all-time classics. We thought we’d better give it a go. So, we put a roll of Ilford FP4 Plus 125 120 in our Hasselblad 500CM and took it out around Brixton, South London.

FP4 125 is one of Ilford’s sharpest films. It has great contrast and will give you really high-quality negatives. We think this is one of the best black and white films you can pick.

Amazing Detail

When we saw our results they exceeded our expectations. Even our shot through the window picks up an amazing amount of detail. FP4 retains the highlights, nice midtones and plenty of detail in the shadows.

This is medium format, so you do gain clarity because of that. But, we were still impressed with how crisp the images look. Bright whites, good blacks and nice separation in the mid tones.

If you are looking for a low-speed film, you can’t go wrong with Ilford FP4. It really sets the standard for 100 ISO films. If you haven’t shot it, we highly recommend trying it out.
