Lucky 200 120 Film Review

Lucky 200 is a relaunched colour film from China. We tried out a roll of Lucky 200 35mm earlier this year and wanted to give the 120 version a go. For this review, we loaded a roll into our Fuji GA645i and wandered around Brick Lane and the City.

Bright And Punchy

Our first time round with Lucky was on a grey rainy London day, but we still got bright, saturated colours. For our 120 review, we enjoyed a sunny summer’s day on Brick Lane and its surrounding streets. Cue the bright and punchy colours! As with the 35mm format, the warm red and pink tones dominated.

On this outing, we also got bright blue skies. The contrast looked similar, with good detail in the shadows and a little more highlight retention this time.

The main difference is the distinctive grain. Although clearly visible, it is much less dominant. Unsurprisingly, on the larger format, there is a smoother look to these images.

Character

In either format, the Lucky character shines through. The saturation and bright colours that pop out at you make this a fun film to shoot, whichever format you’re using. Plus it makes shooting colour medium format affordable. Load a roll up for yourself!
