Hotshoe Issue 214 Stephen Shore

To Be Young taps into nostalgia for youth. Though different for each of us, we all feel that intangible pull to the past from time to time, a longing triggered by a song or a smell or a photograph.

Description

Hotshoe Issue 214 Stephen Shore

Hotshoe Issue 214 Stephen Shore. The first living photographer to have a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York since Alfred Stieglitz, we are extremely fortunate to collaborate with Stephen Shore to bring you this monograph issue, including a discussion with Shore initiated by renowned photographer Todd Hido, and a text in Crude Metaphors written by Shore himself. Plus, introductions to each portfolio by art historian Dr. Tom Cornelius.

It is his influence on conceptual colour photography that contributes to Shore’s stature as one of the most important groundbreaking photographers in art history. He pioneered the use of the diaristic snapshot and is well known for shooting the banal in a deadpan documentary style that brought photography into the realm of art, rejecting narrative in favour of the more formal characteristics of time, space, and surface, encouraging us to actively engage with his work and rewarding the viewer for the effort.
